01

Getting started

I’ve never been to therapy. Where do I start?

Start with a free 15-minute consult. It’s a quick, no-pressure call to ask questions and see if it’s a good fit. In your first session, you’ll talk about what’s brought you in and what you’d like to change. You set the pace and decide what to share.

How do I book an appointment?

You can book online at takecaretherapyco.janeapp.com. We offer in-person and virtual appointments, plus free 15-minute consultations to help you decide if we’re the right fit.

How do I choose the right therapist for me?

Every bio on our About page lists that therapist’s focus areas and approach, so have a look, then pick the person you vibe with and book a free 15-minute consult. Can’t decide? Send us a note and we’ll point you in the right direction.

Do I need a referral to see a therapist?

No. You can book directly with any of our therapists. Some insurance plans ask for a doctor’s referral before they’ll reimburse you, so it’s worth checking your plan.

Do you see teens, or only adults?

We mainly work with adults and have some availability for youth ages 12–17, depending on their needs. Reach out and we’ll talk through how we can support you.

02

Fees & insurance

How much does therapy cost?

Our therapists’ rates range from $200–$250. Each 1-hour appointment is a 50-minute session plus time for your therapist to complete admin tasks.

Is therapy covered by insurance? Do you direct bill?

We don’t direct bill at this time. After each session we’ll email you an invoice to submit to your insurance provider. Coverage depends on your plan and your therapist’s designation (Registered Psychologist, Registered Social Worker or Canadian Certified Counsellor), so check with your insurer before your first session. Alberta Health Care doesn’t cover private therapy.

What is your cancellation and no-show policy?

Please provide at least 24 hours notice if you need to cancel or reschedule. If you have not arrived within 15 minutes of your appointment and your therapist is unable to reach you, the session will be considered a no-show. Cancellations with less than 24 hours notice and no-shows will be charged 100% of the session fee. Exceptions may be made in genuine emergencies, so please reach out as soon as possible if something comes up.
